Helicopter crash report overlooks pilots’ mental State - Kabiru

Walewale MP and Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, has criticised the recently released report on the military helicopter crash.

He argued that it failed to address vital questions about the pilots’ psychological state and the true cause of the incident.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 15, Dr Abdul-Kabiru said the document does little to help the public understand what truly happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

“Unfortunately, the report hasn’t helped much, because we know that when a helicopter is going to crash… what was the psychological framework of the pilots at the time that they were using the aircraft?” he asked.

“They should know, because they were talking to families, they were talking to people they should know.”

The MP stressed that the report is laden with technical language that does not address the real concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.

“It is technical jargon that the good people of Ghana are not interested in,” he said. “Even if you are saying there was a sudden loss of altitude, you have not told us what caused the loss of altitude. Was it a mechanical fault or was it human error?”

Dr Abdul-Kabiru also raised questions about missing details regarding cockpit communications, noting that conversations between the pilots could have included sensitive or security-related information.

He said it was concerning that the report failed to reference the contents of the aircraft’s black box, which he understands was retrieved.

“Nothing in the report has referred to what was contained,” he stated. “The pilot probably would have said that due to A, B, C, they were experiencing some turbulence and whatever.”

Calling for a clearer and more comprehensive explanation, the Walewale MP insisted that the families of the victims and the wider public deserve more transparent answers rather than vague technical summaries.
