‘I couldn’t watch my son’s remains in a sack’ – Mother of crashed helicopter victim

Mother of late Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, who is one of the eight persons who crashed to death in a military helicopter, says she could not master the courage to watch the remains of her beloved son put in a sack.

In what is believed to be her first public comment since the untimely demise of her son in video circulating on social media platform X, she recounted that she has also stayed away from both mainstream and social media platforms because she could not endure the pain.

Answering a question on how her son’s remains were conveyed from the site of the crash, she said she has not been able to view them since last week, when the incident occurred.

“I couldn’t watch. As of now, I have not been to social media or even TV. I cannot watch. They have been talking about it, but I have not seen it,” she answered.

She mentioned that she was overjoyed when her proud son indicated to her that he had secured an American travel visa.

However, her hope to see her son travel to the USA has been cut short following the fatal crash that claimed his life and that of seven other persons on board the military helicopter.

“I am heartbroken, but I leave it all in God’s hands,” she said.

Meanwhile, two of the victims, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna who were Muslims, have since been buried.

The remaining six victims will be given state burial on Friday August 15, 2025
