The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has warned individuals intent on destabilising national security, as the Ghana Police Service received 40 new armoured and light-armoured vehicles at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, December 4.
In his address during the handing-over event, the IGP expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, noting that the vehicles would significantly enhance police operations and improve the safety of personnel in the line of duty.
“I’m particularly delighted that today, we are receiving these armoured vehicles which are going to ensure utmost protection for our officers as they gallantly execute our mandate of protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety and security of all persons across the country,” Mr Yohuno said.
He emphasised that the new fleet would “completely change the face and dynamics of police operations”, allowing the Service to embark on “very bold, robust and targeted operations” across all regions.
According to the IGP, intensified policing in recent months has already forced several criminal elements into hiding, but the enhanced operational capability provided by the new armoured vehicles would enable the Police Service to go even further in dismantling criminal networks.
“We will dismantle any existing criminal networks, most of whom had gone into hiding due to our intensified activities against them,” he affirmed.
Issuing a direct caution, Mr Yohuno warned those seeking to disrupt public safety that their actions would not go unchecked.
“Let me use this opportunity to send a strong word of caution to persons who had decided to disturb the security of this country. We are coming for you. You can run all you want and hide wherever you wish, but we will surely get you,” he declared.
The armoured vehicles are expected to be deployed immediately to support high-risk operations, improve mobility in challenging terrains, and strengthen overall police preparedness.
