Joy FM personalities present cake to Tommy Annan-Forson as the brand celebrates 30 years of impact

As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, Joy FM paid a heartfelt tribute to one of its founding voices and celebrated broadcaster, Tommy Annan-Forson.

A team of presenters and managers from the station visited him to present a specially designed anniversary cake in recognition of his pivotal role in shaping Joy FM’s legacy.

The delegation included the General Manager of Joy Brands, Francis Fiifi Koomson, host of Ken’s Music Mix Ken Addy, Drive Time host Lexis Bill and his producer Philip Nai, OverDrive host Kofi Hayford, and On A More Serious Note host Sarah Amelley Djosu.

Their presence symbolised the continuity of excellence across generations of Joy FM broadcasters.

JOY FM, Ghana’s first private commercial radio station, has for three decades stood as a trailblazer in news, current affairs, and entertainment.

The station has become a household name, renowned for programmes like the Super Morning Show, Drive Time, Newsfile and its award-winning news coverage. Its impact has gone beyond broadcasting, becoming a cultural institution and a platform for shaping national discourse.

At the centre of this heritage is Tommy Annan-Forson, fondly remembered as one of the station’s pioneer presenters. Revered as the “Godfather of Radio” in Ghana, he was instrumental in introducing a polished, professional style of presentation that influenced a generation of broadcasters.

His career at Joy FM set the tone for quality radio in Ghana and his mentorship has produced some of the country’s finest on-air personalities, including Lexis Bill, Kofi Hayford and Sarah Amelley Djosu, who were incidentally selected to visit him.

General Manager of the Joy Brands of the Multimedia Group, Francis Fiifi Koomson, said “the gesture by Joy FM showed the respect the brand has for the legends who built its foundation.”

In presenting the cake, the team took turns to share the impact Mr. Annan-Forson has had on them and how he has contributed to the story of Joy FM’s 30 years of impact and joyfulness.

“That story would be incomplete without honouring the contributions of iconic figures like Tommy Annan-Forson,” said Ken Addy.
