Kadjebi police arrest man over killing of 80-year-old woman

Police in the Kadjebi District have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the killing of an 80-year-old woman, following a sustained, intelligence-led operation.

In a statement released on Wednesday, March 25, authorities identified the suspect as Chalim Madzaton, also known as Peter Tano, a farmer. He was apprehended at a hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu.

The arrest is linked to the death of Dakolor Semaka, whose killing has sparked concern among residents of Mangoase and surrounding communities.

According to police, the incident occurred on March 24, 2026, after the suspect allegedly attacked his girlfriend, 55-year-old Yaa Tugbenyo, and her mother at their home in Mangoase, near Kadjebi.

During the attack, Ms. Tugbenyo managed to escape. However, when she later returned to the house, she a woman discovered her mother lying motionless on the floor, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

Officers arriving at the scene found the elderly woman on her back, showing visible signs of violence. The area was secured and thoroughly processed, with investigators documenting the scene and taking photographs to support the ongoing investigation.

A medical officer at St. Mary Theresa Hospital later confirmed the death of Dakolor Semaka. Her body has been placed in the hospital morgue, where it will be preserved pending a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

“The deceased was pronounced dead by a medical officer at St. Mary Theresa Hospital, and the body has been taken to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy,” authorities said.

Police have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations. He is expected to be arraigned in court in due course.

“The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with investigations, and will be arraigned before court in due course,” the statement added.
