Korle-Bu Doctors Accuse Management of Staging ‘Perfect’ Emergency Ward for Health Minister

The Korle-Bu Doctors’ Association (KODA) has accused hospital management of presenting a misleading picture of conditions at the Accident and Emergency Centre during a visit by the Minister of Health, saying the situation seen on the day of the tour did not reflect the daily reality of the facility.

The visit, which took place on Saturday, March 21, was reportedly prompted by a viral social media video showing patients being treated in chairs and on the floor. During the tour, the Minister of Health, accompanied by Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital management, appeared to conclude that the video’s depiction was inaccurate, encountering what KODA described as a near-normal situation.

KODA, however, said that impression was deliberately staged.

“It is normal practice to prepare the facility before a ministerial visit. New bedsheets are provided for all beds, including those that previously had none, and everything is rearranged to look perfect,” the association said.

The doctors’ group called on management and the Ministry of Health to acknowledge the real situation as a necessary first step toward finding lasting solutions. They warned against shifting blame onto others for systemic issues.

“The Ministry of Health and Korle-Bu management should desist from making scapegoats out of a problem they are responsible for as leaders of healthcare,” KODA stated.

While the association appreciated the immediate steps taken by the Minister and management to provide temporary relief, it urged a shift from “crisis management” to “systemic correction” to address the underlying challenges in the healthcare system.
