Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, says he is “surprised” by the conversations surrounding the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Under the former Borussia Dortmund Assistant trainer, Ghana went winless in six AFCON qualifying matches, missing out on this year’s continental tournament in Morocco – their first absence since 2004.
However, Otto Addo guided the team to five wins in their final six World Cup qualifiers, securing Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
The 50-year-old is also the first Ghanaian to lead the national team to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having done so for the 2022 edition as well.
Despite that success, concerns have emerged over his capability to lead the team on the global stage.
“For me, I was totally surprised,” Kurt told 3Sports.
“I mean, as to how that conversation started, it’s something that even surprises me up to today.
“Otto Addo comes back, plays eight games [in all World Cup qualifiers], wins seven, and draws one – and then all of a sudden, people are talking about the future of the coach.”
Otto Addo is expected to remain in charge of the Black Stars as they embark on their Asian tour in November, featuring friendly matches against Japan and South Korea as part of preparations for the World Cup.
Meanwhile, the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set for December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents
