Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to be closed on December 27

Management of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) has announced a temporary, one-day closure of the iconic heritage site later this month to facilitate essential internal operational activities.

The closure is scheduled for Saturday, December 27, 2025.

The historic park, which was inaugurated in 1991 and underwent a major refurbishment and reopening in 2023, remains one of Ghana’s premier tourist attractions, drawing thousands of local and international visitors annually.

One-Day Hiatus for Operational Activities

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Dr. Collins R. Nunyonameh, the Acting Executive Director of the KNMP, confirmed that the facility will be completely inaccessible to the public on the specified date.

He explained that the temporary shutdown is necessary to conduct internal arrangements crucial for the maintenance of the Park’s high standards and visitor experience.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause. Your understanding and cooperation are deeply appreciated as we continue to uphold the standards and service experience that the Park is known for,” the statement read.

Advice to Tourists and Patrons

Management has urged all tour operators, local patrons, and international visitors planning to visit the site to take critical note of the closure date.

The park’s administration stressed the need to adjust travel itineraries accordingly to avoid disappointment.

The KNMP will resume its normal operating hours, welcoming visitors to explore the mausoleum, museum, and the iconic Reflection Pools, starting the following day, Sunday, December 28, 2025.

The park is dedicated to commemorating the life and work of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a pivotal figure in African liberation history.

Its facilities house Nkrumah’s mausoleum and a museum detailing his political and personal journey. Regular closures for maintenance and internal review are standard procedure for heritage sites to ensure their longevity and quality of presentation.
