La Ruche Health wins 2025 Prix Galien Africa Award for Innovation in Digital Healthcare

The 2025 Prix Galien Africa has honoured Côte d’Ivoire’s La Ruche Health, led by Mr. Rory Assandey, for its groundbreaking work in expanding access to digital healthcare across Africa.

Now in its fifth year, the Prix Galien Africa celebrates excellence and innovation among researchers, institutions, and pharmaceutical companies, driving advancements in biotechnology, diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, herbal medicine, and digital health solutions.

Announcing the winners in Dakar on October 21, 2025, the Co-Presidents of the Jury, Dr. John Nkengasong and Professor Souleymane Mboup, praised La Ruche Health for its impactful contributions to healthcare delivery for marginalized populations.

The Ivorian company, which operates a digital health platform offering culturally sensitive and data-driven healthcare services, connects users to certified professionals and provides on-demand mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and primary care. Since its inception, La Ruche Health has reached more than 75,000 users across Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.

No awards were presented in the categories of Best Pharmaceutical Product, Best Traditional Medicine Product, and Best Biotechnology Product for 2025.

This year’s Prix Galien Africa comes with a prize of 20 million CFA francs (approximately $35,000). In addition, two Special Prizes were awarded to recognize the remarkable contributions of African scientists: Dr. Michael Makanga of Uganda, Executive Director of Global Health EDCTP3, and Ms. Adji Bousso Dieng of Senegal, an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University.

The 2025 Prix Galien Africa is organized with the support of the Presidency of Senegal, the Gates Foundation, the West African Health Organization (WAHO), and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The award will be officially presented at the closing ceremony of the 8th Galien Forum Africa, scheduled from October 28 to 31, 2025, in Dakar, under the theme: Health sovereignty: an imperative for Africa.
