Mahama and NDC donate GH₵50,000 to Daddy Lumba’s family

President John Dramani Mahama, alongside the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has contributed GH₵50,000 to the family of the late legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba.

The donation was made during the final funeral rites held at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, December 13.

Thousands of fans gathered early to pay tribute to the celebrated musician, creating an atmosphere that blended mourning with celebration. Devotees sang and danced to Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits, keeping his legacy alive. Security measures were heightened at the venue to ensure the safety of attendees.

Prominent figures in attendance included NDC National Chairman Aseidu Nketiah, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, and other party officials. Renowned musician Nana Acheampong also performed live, energising the crowd with a band performance in honour of Daddy Lumba.

The funeral follows a decisive ruling by the Accra High Court, which cleared the way for the proceedings after Lumba’s maternal family failed to meet the GH₵2 million required to maintain an injunction preventing the release of the musician’s body.

Legal experts described the ruling as a moment of relief and unity, encouraging Ghanaians to pay their final respects to the national icon.

He died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
