President John Mahama has urged global leaders to rethink education systems to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and fast-changing world.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Doha Forum, President Mahama emphasised the need for education to equip young people with the skills and knowledge to navigate the challenges of the 21st century.
“Our world is changing fast, and our thinking about education must evolve just as rapidly,” he said.
“Education today must prepare young people to adapt to climate shocks, navigate digital disruptions, participate in democracy and governance, contribute to peaceful societies, and compete in a global economy that is increasingly driven by technology and innovation.”
Mr Mahama stressed that education should be transformational rather than transactional, equitable rather than exclusive, and forward-looking rather than outdated.
“This is the justice we owe our children,” he added, emphasising the moral responsibility to prepare future generations for the demands of an interconnected world.
He highlighted that education must go beyond traditional teaching methods and rote learning to cultivate innovation, critical thinking, and civic responsibility.
According to him, such an approach is crucial to addressing the global challenges of climate change, technological disruption, and socio-political instability.
