Mpox: Total confirmed cases hit 565

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 additional cases of mpox, raising the country’s total confirmed infections to 565.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, spreads primarily through close, often prolonged, contact with someone who has the infection, including contact with lesions, bodily fluids, or contaminated materials, as well as respiratory droplets in certain circumstances.

Health authorities are urging the public to take precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. Key advice includes:

  • Practising good hygiene, such as regular handwashing.
  • Avoiding close contact with individuals displaying symptoms.
  • Reporting early to the nearest health facility if symptoms develop — particularly fever, rash, headache, muscle aches, or swollen lymph nodes.
