‘My son spent just a week with his wife after their marriage’ – Mother of Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah

The mother of Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, one of the victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, has given a chilling account of how her son left his newly married wife just a week after their marriage, but did not return home.

According to the grieving mother, her son got married on his 37th birthday, but had to spend just a week with his wife, Mercy, and left their matrimonial home because of the nature of his work.

The mother’s account, which is contained in a video on social media platform X, details how her son’s wife wept uncontrollably on the day her husband had to leave her alone just a week after their marriage.

She stated that she became concerned about the way her daughter-in-law wept bitterly as the husband was taking leave of her, but Mercy, who is a teacher, said, “I just don’t know, but I am too sad.”

“I asked Mercy, Why are you crying? He will be back, but the lady just said Mommy, I don’t know, but I am just sad,” Sgt. Addo-Mensah’s mother recounted.

In the hard-to-watch video, she disclosed that her son had secured a visa to the USA and was planning to leave by December of this year.

“I wanted him to leave so that at least I would also be called “Borger’s mother,” to wit, the mother of a Ghanaian based abroad.

She consoled herself with the optimism that even though her son had died and she would not see him again, his soul would forever find peace in the Lord.

Meanwhile, two of the victims, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna who were Muslims, have since been buried.

The remaining six victims will be given state burial on Friday August 15, 2025
