Five individuals have been arrested by the National Security in connection with the production and distribution of counterfeit DV number plates across Ghana.
The arrests followed a coordinated operation between the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the National Security.
The suspects were apprehended in Lapaz and Nahrman in Accra, as well as Tarkwa and Kumasi, after intelligence linked them to the illegal manufacturing and circulation of the fake plates.
The DVLA confirmed that the suspects have been arraigned in court and remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The suspects are scheduled to reappear in court on March 17, 2026. Authorities say two more individuals connected to the operation, identified through intelligence, remain at large.
The DVLA revealed that many of the counterfeit plates circulated by the cartel were accompanied by forged motor insurance documents, making them appear legitimate.

The Authority has warned the public about the rising circulation of fake DV number plates, emphasizing that Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180) clearly defines who is eligible to be issued with official DV plates.
It also highlighted that forging or using counterfeit DV plates, as well as driving vehicles fitted with duplicate plates, constitutes a criminal offence under the law.
