NDC Spain condemns attack on nurses, urges discipline and compassion in healthcare

The Spain branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the recent attack on nurses at the Ridge Hospital, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and demanding swift justice.

In a statement signed by Branch Secretary Hanson Dartey, the group called on authorities to ensure that the assailant, identified as Ralph, faces the necessary sanctions for his actions.

“We call on the authorities to take immediate action to hold those responsible accountable,” the statement read.

While expressing solidarity with the nurses, the NDC Spain branch also raised concerns about attitudes within the profession, pointing to past instances of neglect and disrespect shown to patients.

The group cited a case in which a family member of one of its members was allegedly treated poorly by a nurse and made disparaging remarks about the patient’s condition.

“We urge the Nurses and Midwives Council to take steps to address such attitudes and ensure that patients are treated with respect and dignity,” the statement continued.

The group emphasised the need for a culture of compassion in healthcare delivery, noting that humane and respectful treatment should be the standard in Ghana’s health facilities.

It urged the Nurses and Midwives Council to proactively promote care and empathy among its members.

The NDC Spain branch welcomed the Minister of Health’s swift condemnation of the attack and the establishment of a committee to investigate the incident.

It called for a thorough probe into the circumstances and urged that concrete recommendations be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
