Employees, clad in Milo-branded T-shirts with the inscription “Building Champions”, embodied the theme of the day as they participated in a series of health-focused activities.

Following the official opening, staff took part in a yoga session in the company’s garden, engaging in guided exercises designed to promote mindfulness and relaxation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Ms. Salomé Azevedo, urged staff to prioritise their personal health despite life’s many responsibilities.

“It’s all about the choices you make every day. There will be 100 priorities in your life, but you can’t be any of those things—a parent, a colleague, a friend—if you don’t take care of yourself first. Exercising is transformative. We need to live longer, stay strong for our families, and enjoy a healthy life,” she said.

Human Resources Manager, Sophia Benson, stated that the wellness hub is part of a long-standing journey by Nestlé to invest in employee well-being.

“This journey didn’t start today. We asked ourselves: if we have a wellness facility in Tema, why not here in Accra? We considered different options, even paying for gym subscriptions. But today, we have this beautiful gym. This is Nestlé—a company that truly cares about our well-being.

“We’re not waiting for you to fall sick before acting. We’ve provided strong medical policies, a company doctor, and now a wellness hub to help prevent illness and keep us healthy,” she said.

For her part, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Deborah Kwablah, explained that the wellness hub forms part of a broader workplace health strategy, with a similar facility already operational at Nestlé’s Tema factory.

“We believe that the wellness hub, both in Accra and in Tema, will give us a healthier workforce. ..Our company doctor is also an in-house person who helps us and directs us to the right healthcare. …The Wellness Center and the gym that we have commissioned today in the Nestle Ghana head office is to really drum home and put into action the fact that we care about our employees.”

And when we say we care, we actually mean it, and if we say we mean it, these are the only actions that we can put in place to show that we truly care about the health of our employees and a good, healthy workforce will actually reduce your medical bill as well. If you look at it, the benefit is enormous.”

The commissioning was also celebrated under the Milo brand, which carries the slogan “Building Champions”.

Ms. Kwablah explained that Milo’s association with sports and youth development made it the perfect brand to anchor the occasion.

“We are celebrating the commissioning of the gym with one of our brands, Milo. And Milo has a slogan, Building Champs. …The brand itself is a sporty brand, and it builds champions. Because through sports, you can build champions. It teaches us great, it teaches us teamwork, it teaches us to fail, but not to give up.

“So opening up or commissioning the wellness hub today, we couldn’t find a better brand. Out of all our brands, we chose the sporty brand to celebrate the day with. So that is what building charms means.”

The wellness hub is expected to serve as a dedicated space for health-focused programs, providing staff with resources to improve physical and mental well-being while fostering a culture of healthy living.
