NextGen Connect launches in Accra: Building legacies, changing the narrative

The Family Business Hub officially launched NextGen Connect, a pioneering initiative designed to equip and unite the next generation of family business leaders.

The platform provides a safe space and community for emerging leaders, siblings, successors, innovators, and advocates of legacy enterprises to build capacity, share knowledge, and prepare to lead businesses that endure across generations.

The urgency is clear: nearly 70% of family businesses do not survive beyond the founder; and in Africa, the statistics are even more alarming. NextGen Connect is a bold response, proving that it is possible to change this narrative. The key is intentional leadership.

Founder’s Vision

“NextGen Connect was born out of a conviction that the story of African family businesses does not have to end with the founder. Too many businesses disappear because continuity was left to chance, not choice. Through this initiative, we are building a safe space and strong community for next gens to learn, share, and lead with purpose. Our goal is simple: family businesses that survive and thrive across generations.”
Mary Asante-Asamoah, Founder, Family Business Hub & Host of Family Business Diaries

A Powerful Beginning

The inaugural event brought together a diverse group of professionals from industries including technology, consumer markets, consulting, and manufacturing. It was a vibrant exchange of ideas, strategies, and shared commitment to building enduring enterprises.

Keynote Highlight

One of the most inspiring moments of the day was the keynote by Dr. Gifty Quarshie-Ngissah, Medical Director of Midway Hospital, a family enterprise 45 years strong, now thriving five years after the founder’s passing. Her leadership journey embodied transition and transformation: restructuring and growing the business, fostering deep bonds with employees, and making bold decisions for sustainability. Her story offered powerful lessons on resilience, innovation, and honouring tradition while embracing change.

From Podcast to Platform

NextGen Connect builds on the momentum of the Family Business Diaries podcast, which first sparked awareness about the unique challenges and opportunities of family enterprises. What began as storytelling has now evolved into a dynamic platform for community, collaboration, and legacy-building.

A Call to Action

The Accra launch is just the beginning. NextGen Connect welcomes young leaders across Ghana, Africa, and beyond to join the movement.

The first gathering was a resounding success, and the journey continues. The Next Hangout is scheduled for November, with details to be announced soon. Together, the next generation can transform today’s challenges into impact, continuity, and thriving legacies
