Nollywood veteran Segun Arinze arrived at the Kotoka International Airport yesterday ahead of his role in the stage production The Black Star (The Teacher of Africa).
The Nigerian actor, celebrated for decades of work in film, television and theatre, was greeted with a cultural display and media reception that underscored Ghana’s hospitality. His arrival signals a major step in preparations for the historic play, which will see him perform alongside Ghanaian stage actor Andrew Tandoh-Adote and nearly 100 cast and crew members.
Produced by Africa Arts Network in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and directed by Emmanuel Ato Ghartey, The Black Star (The Teacher of Africa) tells the story of Ghana’s first president and Pan-African icon, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. The production is designed not only as theatre but also as a cultural statement on unity and shared African history.
The play premieres from 19th to 21st September 2025 at the Commonwealth Hall Amphitheatre, University of Ghana, as part of events marking Nkrumah’s birthday. It will return in March 2026 at Black Star Square during Ghana’s Independence celebrations.
Speaking to the media, Segun Arinze said:
“It’s a nice warm feeling, and it’s a good thing for us to collaborate, particularly with West African countries. We both share history as Ghanaians and Nigerians, and I look forward to a lovely performance. People will come and see what we are doing. I’m hoping that part of the family of Kwame Nkrumah will be in the hall to see this play.”
Andrew Tandoh-Adote also emphasised the importance of Arinze’s involvement:
