NPP accuses AG of shielding NDC members through abuse of prosecutorial powers

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of abusing his prosecutorial discretion to protect members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and political allies facing corruption-related charges.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, November 5, 2025, in Accra, the NPP’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, alleged that the AG has developed a pattern of entering nolle prosequi in several high-profile cases involving individuals accused of stealing huge sums of money from the state.

According to him, within the last eight months alone, the Attorney General has filed nolle prosequi in not fewer than 10 cases, resulting in what the NPP describes as the “loss of millions of dollars allegedly stolen by his cronies.”

“The Attorney General and Minister for Justice appears to only be good at filing nolle prosequi to free his political cronies and NDC members who are standing trial for allegedly stealing huge sums of money from the state,” Mr. Kodua claimed.

He further accused Dr. Ayine of cutting deals with some accused persons to use them as prosecution witnesses in cases against former government appointees who served under the previous NPP administration.

Mr. Kodua described the trend as a “blatant abuse of prosecutorial discretion”, adding that never in the history of Ghana has the office of the Attorney General been used in such a partisan and selective manner.
