NSMQ 2025: Aburi Girls reach quarterfinals after comeback win over Apam SHS, Konongo Odumase SHS

Aburi Girls’ Senior High School has ended a seven-year wait for a quarterfinal berth in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after mounting a dramatic comeback to eliminate Apam SHS and Konongo Odumase SHS in their one-eighth stage contest at the SGS Auditorium.

The girls from Aburi, who last reached the quarterfinals in 2018, showed grit and tactical brilliance in the final rounds to seal a decisive 56 points, 46 points, and 44 points victory over Apam and Konongo, respectively, reclaiming their place among the competition’s elite.

After Round One, Apam and Konongo shared the lead with 24 points each, while Aburi Girls followed closely with 23. Konongo extended their lead in Round Two, but Aburi Girls stayed within touching distance.

All three schools later impressed with a perfect 10/10 in the Problem of the Day, keeping the tension alive.

Aburi Girls then took control in Round Four, leading with 50 points after answering all their True or False questions correctly to secure 16/16 points, while their opponents faltered.

They sealed the win emphatically in the riddles round, picking the first two correctly as Apam and Konongo failed to respond.

With this performance finishing with 56 points, ahead of Apam SHS’s 46 and Konongo Odumase SHS’s 44, Aburi Girls’ SHS not only unseated Apam SHS but also became the only girls’ school to have secured a seeded spot so far in NSMQ2025, with Krobo Girls’ SHS still yet to contest their one-eighth fixture.
