Konongo-Odumase Senior High School (KOSS) has dragged Accra’s Labone SHS and St. John’s Grammar School in a fierce battle at the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) prelims to storm into the one-eighth stage.
The Ashanti Region contenders, who entered the contest 11 as runners-up after Ghana-Lebanon Islamic SHS pulled out, proved that opportunity meets preparation.
Konongo-Odumase finished on top with a commanding 53 points, ahead of St. John’s Grammar’s 46 points and Labone SHS’s 30 points.

The contest was intense through four rounds, with just a single point separating Konongo (47pts) and St. John’s (46pts) heading into the final stage. But Round Five turned the tide decisively. Konongo-Odumase swept the first two riddles to stretch their lead, while Labone picked the last two to close the show.
This victory comes as a major redemption for Konongo-Odumase, who had earlier lost their main contest to Kumasi Secondary Technical School by just three points (49–46).
