Otto Addo is not a coach to lead Black Stars at 2026 World Cup - Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu

Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah, has cast doubts over Otto Addo’s competence to lead the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup if the team is to qualify.

Ghana is on course to secure a place in the global showpiece to be staged next year as they command a three-point lead in Group I ahead of the final two games of the qualifiers.

Despite the team doing well in the World Cup qualifiers as well as the results are concerned, the performances have not been convincing, with many faulting Addo for the inconsistent outings.

In an interview with Wontumi, Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said the former Borussia Dortmund man is not well-equipped to lead Ghana at the World Cup.

“I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament,” he said.

“I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group; unfortunately, they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure qualification. For Madagascar, who are trailing us with 16 points, they can’t win the two remaining games.”

The recent win over Mali leaves Ghana just one victory away from sealing qualification.

Next up for the Black Stars is an away clash against the Central African Republic, before wrapping up their campaign with a home fixture against Comoros in October.
