The Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspected drug peddlers in Tamale in the Northern Region, seizing significant quantities of illicit substances in what authorities describe as a decisive intervention against the city’s drug trade.

The operation, carried out as part of heightened security measures during the festive season, was conducted in collaboration with the Gulkpegu Chief Task Force.

The joint exercise targeted suspected dealers with the aim of disrupting drug distribution networks within the metropolis.

Among those arrested is Gladys Lariba, a resident of Taha, who is alleged to have been peddling toffees laced with Indian hemp as well as dried leaves suspected to be the narcotic.

Others apprehended include Joseph Christian, Musah Stephen and Fatau Issahaku, who were found in possession of Tramadol capsules and substances believed to be Indian hemp.

Amina Isahaku and her husband, Muhammed Sumaila, were arrested with boxes of Tramadol capsules following a tip-off from the Gulkpegu Chief Task Force.

Two suspects, identified as Hidir and Hikima Yahaya, remain on the run. Police say efforts have been intensified to track them down and dismantle the wider distribution network.

Commenting on the operation, the leader of the team, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil, said the exercise demonstrated the commitment, professionalism and operational effectiveness of the Special Operations Team.

“We are working tirelessly to keep Tamale safe and secure,” he said, adding that the crackdown underscores the importance of community collaboration and inter-agency cooperation in the fight against crime.
