Asanteman and the entire nation has been hit with a sad news of the passing of Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
According to multiple news sources, she died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
Profile of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III
The late Asantehemaa was named Nana Ama Konadu at birth and also known by all as Nana Panin or Naa Panin.
She later became Nana Konadu Yiadom III, after her enstoolment as the 14th Asantehemaa on February 6, 2016.
Born in 1927, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was born at the Benyaade Shrine in Merdan, a small town near Kumasi.
Her birth coincided with the restoration of the Asante Confederacy.
She was the daughter of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who later served as Asantehemaa from 1977 to 2016, and Opanin Kofi Fofie, a carpenter from Besease.
Early Life and Education
At a little over a year old, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was separated from her mother and raised by her aunt, Nana Afia Konadu, in Ash-Town, Kumasi.
Despite not receiving a formal education, she underwent a comprehensive informal education, gaining knowledge and skills not taught in a classroom.
In her early teens, she was initiated into womanhood alongside her niece, Nana Abena Ansa.
She later married Opanin Kwame Boateng, a blacksmith from Aduman.
A Prophecy Fulfilled
Known for her kind heart, humility, and hardworking nature, Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s future was prophesied in the mid-1990s.
Kwaku Firi Bosomfo, a priest, foretold through Baffour Akoto, a senior linguist to the Asantehene, that she would one day become the Queen of Asante.
This prophecy came to pass, leading to her ascension as Asantehemaa.
Philanthropy and Leadership
Throughout her life, Nana Konadu Yiadom III has been recognized for her generosity and leadership.
The Saviour Church named a school after her, the Nana Konadu Saviour School, in honour of her contributions to God’s work.
As Asantehemaa, she has been praised for her high level of equity, justice, and fairness.
All cases brought before her have been settled amicably. During her 5th anniversary, she demonstrated her compassionate spirit by making a significant donation to the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU), Pediatric Emergency Care Unit (PICU), and Pediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia Government District Hospital.
This generous donation was part of a broader campaign she launched to encourage mothers to breastfeed their children, an annual event she instituted to promote the health and well-being of young ones.
