Staff of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) at Prudential Bank Ghana Limited staged a protest at the bank’s head office on Wednesday, accusing the new management of unfair treatment and discrimination in recent salary adjustments.
Wearing red armbands and headbands, the aggrieved workers chanted songs as they alleged that the new leadership had introduced selective salary increases, favouring some employees while neglecting long-serving staff who had dedicated years to the institution.
Speaking to the media, one staff member said, “At the beginning of the year, the union negotiated a 15% salary increase across board. But management said they didn’t have money and would pay when funds became available. Up to now, they have not paid.
“But they have singled out some staff from the IT department, promoted them, and increased their salaries. The rest of us have been marginalized. So it is the ICU unionized staff members who are demonstrating.”
The protesting workers are calling for fair and transparent salary reviews across all departments and have urged management to communicate clearly about the basis for the recent pay changes.
Meanwhile, Prudential Bank’s management is currently holding a crunch meeting with the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) to resolve the impasse.
