The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has questioned the basis for the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
He warned that unanswered questions surrounding the process will resurface after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government leaves office in 2029.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Aboagye said he had long been concerned about the grounds on which the decision was taken, arguing that due process was not followed in arriving at the outcome.
“I think it’s time for us to come down to give her some hearing. I have always had a problem with the basis for her removal and all the things they went through.
“I think that there is no audit report from any Auditor-General indicating the primary allegations they used against her. And I don’t think our laws allow any committee or body to determine these things other than the Auditor-General,” he stated.
He further argued that the former Chief Justice herself had been left in the dark, having only received an official notification of her removal without access to the detailed report.
“As it stands now, nobody has even seen the report, and she has not received a copy of the report from the President. The only thing she received was the letter from the Secretary indicating that she had been removed.
“We don’t even know in proper terms the basis of her removal other than what the President has stated,” Mr Aboagye said.
According to him, the full picture will only emerge after the government’s tenure ends.
“That is why I am saying when this government eventually leaves in 2029, we will know the details. And I am very sure that when this woman gets the opportunity to go through this process again, we would see a lot of doubts,” he added.
