Ridge Hospital assault probe committee set to present report today

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the committee established to investigate the alleged assault on health workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) will submit its report today, Monday, August 25.

The committee was established by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh in response to public outcry over the incident.

Head of Communications at the Ministry, Tony Goodman, disclosed this on Citi FM.

“We have spoken to those around, including the nurse who was in charge, and we have come to some conclusions. By Monday, the report will be given to the Minister,” he said.

The inquiry followed the circulation of a viral video which captured a violent altercation between relatives of a patient and medical staff at the hospital’s emergency unit.

The incident, involving one Ralph St. Williams, the alleged instigator, sparked widespread concern over the safety of frontline health workers.

According to the ministry, the police have already made some arrests in connection with the assault.

The Minister for Health subsequently visited the facility and directed that a full investigation be conducted to ensure accountability and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Meanwhile, a nurse at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, has filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams.

In a writ filed at the High Court, Ms. Bortei is demanding GH₵7 million in damages — GH₵5 million for battery and GH₵2 million for defamation, after she claimed the activist physically attacked her and later published damaging remarks about her on social media.

According to the statement of claim, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 17, 2025, while Ms. Bortei was on duty at Ridge Hospital.

She alleges that Mr Williams stormed the emergency ward with a group of men, demanding immediate treatment for what he described as an injury to his fingers.

When staff insisted he follow hospital procedures, he allegedly became violent, hurling insults and filming staff and patients without consent.
