Former Stephen Appiah, captain of the Ghana national football team, has been unveiled as the new brand ambassador for SIC Insurance PLC in a one-year partnership aimed at promoting insurance awareness and strengthening public confidence in the company’s services.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the company’s headquarters in Accra, where the Ghanaian football legend was formally introduced as the face of the brand for the next 12 months.
Speaking at the event, Appiah expressed appreciation for the opportunity and said the role carries a broader responsibility beyond personal recognition.
“With deep gratitude and humility, I accept the honour of representing the State Insurance Company,” he said. “This is not just a personal milestone but also a reflection of the trust and vision shared by everyone who believes in SIC’s mission to provide accessible, reliable and innovative insurance solutions for Ghanaians.”
Appiah, who captained Ghana during one of the most defining periods in the national team’s history and led the country to its first-ever appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, said the partnership offers an opportunity to highlight the importance of financial protection for individuals and businesses.
According to him, insurance plays a crucial role in safeguarding lives and livelihoods against unexpected events.
“Insurance is more than just a product; it’s a safeguard that offers peace of mind and financial security during life’s uncertainties,” he said. “Over the years, SIC has supported individuals, families and businesses in recovering from setbacks, and I’m proud to be part of this respected brand.”
The former midfielder, who played for clubs such as Juventus F.C. and Fenerbahçe S.K., also encouraged Ghanaians to make insurance an essential part of their financial planning.
“At this unveiling, I invite all Ghanaians to make SIC their first choice for insurance,” he added, while thanking the company for the trust placed in him and pledging to support its public awareness campaigns throughout the partnership.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, James Agyenim-Boateng, described the collaboration as a strategic alignment between two brands that share similar values of leadership, credibility and national pride.
He explained that the decision to appoint Appiah reflects the company’s commitment to working with personalities whose influence resonates strongly with the Ghanaian public.
“Stephen Appiah embodies the spirit of leadership, perseverance and excellence that SIC Insurance stands for,” Agyenim-Boateng said. “His connection with the Ghanaian people makes him an ideal partner as we work to deepen insurance awareness and strengthen trust in our brand.”
He added that the partnership forms part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its brand presence and make insurance more relatable to everyday life.
Beyond his achievements in football, Agyenim-Boateng noted that Appiah represents values that align closely with the company’s identity.
“Stephen Appiah is not only a celebrated sports figure; he is also a symbol of leadership, discipline, resilience and national pride,” he said. “As captain of the Black Stars, he showed what it means to lead with courage, inspire a generation and carry the hopes of a nation.”
He further expressed confidence that the collaboration would help the company strengthen its engagement with the public while encouraging individuals and businesses to prioritise financial protection.
“Through this partnership, we believe Stephen Appiah will help us connect more deeply with Ghanaians, build confidence in insurance and highlight the importance of protecting what matters most — our lives, our families, our assets and our future,” he said.
Welcoming the football icon into the SIC family, Agyenim-Boateng also expressed optimism that the partnership would inspire young people across the country.
“Stephen, we are proud to welcome you to the SIC family,” he said. “We look forward to a fruitful partnership that will strengthen our brand and also contribute to the development of sports and youth inspiration in Ghana.”
The collaboration brings together one of Ghana’s most established financial institutions and one of the country’s most celebrated football icons.
Through the one-year partnership, SIC Insurance PLC hopes to leverage Appiah’s influence to deepen public education on insurance while reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in protecting the aspirations and investments of Ghanaians.
