Tema Ladies Open Golf Tournament aims to attract female golfers from around the world while helping to revive women’s golf at the Tema Ladies Golf Club, according to Lady Captain Helen Appah.
Speaking to JoySports during the maiden edition of the tournament at the Centre of the World Golf Club, Appah said the competition forms part of efforts to strengthen the club’s ladies’ section and encourage greater participation among professional and young female golfers.
She explained that the tournament is designed to provide a competitive platform for women golfers while also inspiring the next generation of players to take up the sport.
“This is a tournament that we hope will attract ladies and golfers from around the world,” she said. “Here in Tema, we’re working to revitalise the ladies’ section, particularly among professional female golfers, while also raising awareness and inspiring younger players through their participation in the competition.”

Appah also highlighted the health benefits of the sport, noting that golf offers a unique way for players to stay physically active.
“Golf is one of the best sports for exercise, especially because of the walking involved,” she said.
The Tema Ladies Open brings together both professional and amateur golfers, with organisers hoping the competition will grow into a major fixture on the regional women’s golf calendar.
