The late Safo Kantanka was a key financier of NPP - Fmr Ablekuma Central MP

A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ebenezer Nartey, has revealed that the late Ghanaian inventor and entrepreneur, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, was a major financier of the party.

His demise was announced on Sunday, September 14.

Speaking on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning on Monday, the former legislator noted that the contributions of Safo Kantanka went beyond his role as an innovator, underscoring his financial support for the NPP during critical moments.

“As a party (NPP), we have also lost a very great person because I will say without anything that he was one of our key financiers of the party, it is a fact, and we cannot dispute that fact.”

He added that the late inventor of Katanka vehicles and other machinery “helped the party in so many ways. When it comes to activities of the party, he sometimes gave out the equipment that he had. In 2016, our last rally that we had in Accra, most of the things that we used came from the church.”

Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was a renowned inventor, pastor, and businessman. He founded the Kristo Asafo Mission in the late 1970s and later established the Kantanka Group of Companies, which became famous for its locally manufactured vehicles and innovative technologies.

Widely respected for his pioneering spirit, Safo Kantanka championed home-grown solutions, blending modern science with Ghanaian ingenuity.

Among his children is the former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
