Thomas-Asante hails Coventry City teammates for sizzling form

Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has credited his Coventry City teammates for his rich vein of form in the English Championship this term.

The 26-year-old has netted five times in his last three appearances.

His latest was a brace as Coventry City beat Portsmouth to extend their lead at the top to four points.

Thomas-Asante has now scored eight goals and provided three assists this term, making him the first Ghanaian since Patrick Agyemang in 2017 to reach seven or more goals in the first 11 games.

“Last season, I was suffering a bit of injury and trying to play through that but obviously not being 100% is a bit frustrating,” he said in the post-match interview.

“The boys get used to me and vice versa, and working with the manager [Lampard]. Having pre-season is always a strength and a positive thing because you can get the building blocks in tactically and physically, so I think that helped.

“It is not just about me; the other boys are making it really easy, and I am so grateful to have these teammates.”

He has featured five times for Ghana in all competitions, scoring once.

Thomas-Asante, who was a substitute in the nation’s final World Cup qualifier victory over Comoros after being handed a late call-up, hopes to be in the squad for November’s Asian friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
