Three people have been confirmed dead, with one in critical condition, following a devastating road accident involving a tipper truck at the Apire–Hemang stretch in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, around 5:00 a.m., when a sand-loaded tipper truck reportedly suffered brake failure, lost control, and collided with two private vehicles. The impact claimed three lives instantly.
Vehicles involved include a private car with registration DV A5244, a Toyota Vitz (WT 1081-21), and the tipper truck bearing registration GC 3786-21.
Eyewitnesses said some victims were trapped in the wreckage for several hours before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived to assist.
“Two people were trapped in the car and crying out for help, but there was little we could do. Sadly, they died,” one eyewitness recounted.
Local commercial driver Francis Twumasi, who regularly operates along the stretch, attributed the accident to brake failure on the tipper truck.
“The truck lost its brakes, which led to this deadly accident. The situation was very terrible,” he said, adding concerns over reckless driving.
“Driving on this road has become very risky. Some tipper truck drivers do not exercise patience,” he noted.
The injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the mortuary. Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
