Tilly Akua Nipaa, Head of Public Relations at music distribution company Crux Global, has reiterated her stance on a controversial comment she made about Stonebwoy last year.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie, Tilly said she remains unfazed by criticism and continues to stand by her opinion.
“Is there a rule in the TGMA that says if an artiste wins one year, they have to come back and win again the next?” she asked.
She explained that her “retrogression” comment was made in a specific context:
“I made the retrogression statement, and I still stand by it solidly because I compared his previous album to the current one. Vida couldn’t defend it because she knew I was right. The only difference is that the jabs she threw at King Promise didn’t go viral like my retrogression comment,” she said.
The debate traces back to last year when Tilly, then handling PR and promotions for King Promise ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), argued during a discussion organised by DJ Slim that Stonebwoy’s latest album showed no progress compared to his previous work.
The comment did not sit well with Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Head of Communications at Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group, leading to a public back-and-forth that appears to linger.
Tilly clarified that her statement was limited to comparing Stonebwoy’s two albums in that specific timeframe, not his entire music career.
Following the release of the 2026 TGMA nominations, which saw Stonebwoy earn a nod in the Artiste of the Year category while King Promise missed out, Vida responded on social media:
“Retrogression? Sia, if ebe easy do am. #malnourishedanalysis”
Tilly also dismissed circulating claims that King Promise only gave her Kivo Gari after her PR work and failed to sponsor her master’s programme as promised. She suspects the fake news card was created by Lasmid Boy, a social media account often seen supporting Stonebwoy.
Meanwhile, Stonebwoy leads the 2026 TGMA nominations with eight nods, while King Promise has two.
