The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported that two people have died, while 13 others have sustained injuries following a head-on collision on the Anyinam–Enyiresi stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Thursday, 4th December.
According to the GNFS, the Anyinam Fire Station received a distress call at 09:21 hours and dispatched a six-member rescue team, led by LFM Awuku Samuel, arriving at the scene at 09:36 hours.
The collision involved a Toyota Hiace (AS-4191-25), travelling from Nkawkaw towards Accra, and a Honda Pilot (AS-8086-14).
Both vehicles were found wrecked in the middle of the road. The driver of the Honda Pilot and a female passenger were trapped in the mangled vehicle.
Firefighters worked to extricate them and rushed them to the Enyiresi Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Thirteen additional victims, 12 males and one female, had already been conveyed to the same hospital by bystanders before the emergency team reached the scene.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the Toyota Hiace attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre, lost control, and veered into the path of the oncoming Honda Pilot, resulting in the fatal impact.
The GNFS rescue crew subsequently cleared the debris and restored the flow of traffic.
The Service reminded motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, noting that such preventable incidents continue to claim lives on major highways across the country.
