Two friends remanded over robbery allegation

Two friends have been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti region for allegedly robbing two brothers at Abuakwa-Sepaase, also in the municipality.

Albert Mensah, 18, unemployed and Bismark Yeboah, an excavator operator’s apprentice, also 18 years, pleaded not guilty and will return before the court on September 12, this year.

Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Jephthah Appau that Mensah and Yeboah are friends who reside at Sepaase and Adwafo, respectively, while the complainants, Alex Duah and Blessing Duah, are both tilers and tricycle (Pragyia) riders, residing at Sepaase.

He said, on August 18, this year, at about 12 midnight, the Duah brothers were on their tricycle discussing the fare with two ladies, who wanted to hire their services to Abuakwa.

Prosecution said the accused persons went to the scene and demanded their mobile phones and suddenly pounced on the victim Blessing, collected his iPhone 11 Pro Max valued at GH¢2,600, as well as 800 cedis cash.

They again attempted to rob Alex, but Blessing prevented them, so Mensah pulled a kitchen knife and stabbed his back, leaving him with a deep cut, screaming, and both of them bolted.

According to the Prosecution, some people heard the victim screaming and rushed to the scene, took him to the Abuakwa polyclinic, but he was transferred to the Kwadaso SDA hospital, where he was admitted for two days, treated and discharged.

A report was made to the Abuakwa police, and Mensah was arrested from his house at Sepaase.

Upon hearing the arrest of Mensah, the relatives of Yeboah also arrested and handed him over to the police.

In their caution statements, they admitted and, after further investigations, were charged and brought before the court.
