Uphold integrity and serve with dignity abroad - Mahama urges newly appointed envoys

President John Dramani Mahama has called on newly appointed envoys to lead with integrity, fairness, and a strong sense of accountability, both in their service to the nation and in the management of public resources entrusted to them.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 15 Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-Generals at Jubilee House on Thursday, he emphasised that Ghana’s image abroad is shaped not only by diplomacy, but by the day-to-day conduct and leadership of those who represent it.

“Your staff must be guided with fairness, respect and a sense of shared purpose. The image of Ghana abroad is not only shaped by what you say, but also how you manage, serve and uphold the dignity of every Ghanaian citizen that is under your care,” he stated.

He reminded the envoys that their missions must reflect the values the government is working to entrench at home: ethical leadership, transparency, and responsible governance.

“Integrity must be your watchword,” the President added. “The Public Financial Management Act and all relevant regulations must guide your stewardship of public resources that are put in your care.”

President Mahama urged the diplomats to be diligent custodians of the public purse, ensuring that every cedi spent serves the national interest.

He stressed the importance of delivering efficient, responsive service and demonstrating the highest standards of ethical governance in every mission.

“I urge you to guard the public purse with diligence and ensure that efficient service and ethical governance the very values we are entrenching at home shine through in every mission abroad,” he said.
