Wa East MP expands Educational Support Scheme for tertiary students

The Member of Parliament for Wa East Constituency, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has announced the opening of applications for the Wa East Constituency Tertiary Educational Support Scheme (WESTESS).

Established during his first term, the initiative seeks to provide financial and other forms of assistance to brilliant but needy students from the constituency enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Ghana.

Dr. Jasaw described the scheme as a major investment in the future of the youth and a reaffirmation of his commitment to human resource development in Wa East.

Since its inception, WESTESS has grown in scope to address the widening educational needs of constituents.

In line with the government’s “No Fees Stress Policy,” the scheme now offers full tuition coverage for students from the constituency pursuing specialised fields such as Medicine, Law, Nurse Midwifery, Physician Assistantship, Engineering, Computer Science, and Laboratory Technology.

Beneficiaries in these disciplines will have their fees paid from their second year through to completion. The MP explained that this support is targeted at strengthening Wa East’s human resource base in critical sectors of national development.

Students enrolled in other academic programmes will also receive partial financial support under the initiative.

According to Dr. Jasaw, this ensures that no student from the constituency is left behind, regardless of their chosen field of study.

By cushioning families against the burden of tertiary education, WESTESS aims to empower young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to both the constituency and the country.

Interested applicants are required to submit an application letter, a certified copy of their admission letter, Ghana Card, current fee schedule, and details of any other scholarships they may be benefiting from.

Applications close on September 30, 2025, and should be submitted through designated zonal representatives across the constituency, including Funsi, Bulenga, Manwe, Loggu, and Bayiri zones. Constituents have been encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunity to access support for their tertiary education.
