The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike following discussions with the government over outstanding arrears owed to waste management service providers.
In a statement issued on November 7, ESPA announced that the decision came after a meeting with the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, who assured the association of the government’s commitment to process and settle all outstanding payments within the shortest possible time.
The Executive Secretary of ESPA, Ama Ofori Antwi, said, “In light of these positive engagements, I, on behalf of the National Executive Council, wish to urge all member companies to suspend the planned nationwide strike originally scheduled to take effect on November 7, 2025.”
The discussions also explored ways to establish sustainable policy and funding frameworks to support Ghana’s waste management sector in the long term.
The Executive Secretary urged member companies to continue normal operations while the Association works closely with the government to secure a lasting and mutually beneficial resolution.
She acknowledged the financial difficulties members face but stressed the importance of maintaining essential sanitation services nationwide.
ESPA expressed gratitude to its members for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding their interests while ensuring the continuous and efficient delivery of waste management services nationwide.
