‘We received jerseys on eve of game’ – Berekum Chelsea react to GFA charge

Berekum Chelsea had a “short timeframe” to resolve the issue of players’ names displayed at the back of their jerseys, according to the club’s spokesperson, Isaac Obeng.

Some of their players had no identification on their jerseys during the clash with Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park.

As a result, the Ghana FA charged them, with the club having until Tuesday, September 16, to respond.

“We received our jerseys on Friday afternoon. During the inspection, we realized that some had numbers at the back while others did not,” Obeng said on Asempa FM.

“But the timeframe was too short for the club to resolve the issue, so we informed the company, who admitted it was a mistake.

“We will find ways to ensure it does not happen in the next match.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea were further charged for not observing the enhanced safety and security protocols, having allowed unauthorized official Nana Nketia to sit in the inner perimeter.

The club is also alleged to have failed to organize a mandatory pre-match interview for their head coach, Samuel Boadu.

Kotoko walked away with three points to break a 15-year jinx at the Golden City Park.
