Isaac Kobina Amoako, Chief Revenue Officer and Head of the IT Training Centre at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has revealed that the authority has effective systems for tracking the income of bloggers and other creatives.
He made this statement while speaking at Joy FM’s 7th Showbiz Roundtable hosted by Kwame Dadzie on Saturday, 6th September 2025.
Isaac said even though most creatives fall under the informal sector, they are all obliged to honour their tax obligations.
“The same way that we track all income earners is the same way we use to track the income of creatives. It’s either by informants, third party, we may go to your bank account and observe how you are getting money into your bank account.
If you don’t have a bank account, there could be something else. You might have a friend who has your money and if the information is that you earn income but you don’t have a bank account but it is with somebody, the GRA can go to that somebody and collect,” he explained.
He added that if a blogger comes under GRA’s radar, they will use all the state’s resources to establish where the income is kept, whether the person has registered or not.
When asked if the GRA had tracked the earnings of bloggers, he said: “of course because that is the work we do every day.” He noted that some bloggers have already paid their taxes.
The event, themed “GRA Vs. Creatives – Taxation and the Future of Ghana’s Creative & Digital Economy”, brought together event organisers, DJs, MCs, artiste managers, bloggers, YouTubers, musicians, filmmakers, fashion designers, visual artists, dancers, comedians and other creative entrepreneurs. Officials from the GRA were also present to engage the creative community on the impact of taxation.
Another GRA official who spoke at the event included Victor Yao Akogo, Chief Revenue Officer at the Domestic Tax Division.
Industry stakeholders present were Kojo Poku, Vice President of the Event and Meeting Professionals Association of Ghana; Francis Doku, Chief Executive Officer of Maestro Africa Group; Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse; playwright and CEO of Globe Productions Latif Abubakar; poet and literary coach Nana Asaase; and comedian Lekzy DeComic.
