We’ll soon see meaningful results in anti-galamsey fight – Lands Ministry assures

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has assured Ghanaians that tangible progress will soon be evident in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, said the government remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in its anti-galamsey efforts.

He noted that regular updates are being provided to keep the public informed on the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Blue Water Guards.

“There is abundant political will, and there is also an intelligent raft of policies from the Minister. It is just a matter of time, we will begin to see meaningful results,” he assured.

Mr. Schandorf, however, admitted that the extent of environmental devastation caused by illegal mining has made achieving immediate results difficult.

“The reality that confronts us and I’m sure everyone can admit, is that some levels of results we’re looking for may not be immediate, considering how deeply galamsey has eaten into the fabric of our environment,” he said.

He noted that despite these challenges, the Ministry remains resolute in its mission.
