Ghana joins calls for ‘Israel-Gaza’ ceasefire after high-level Palestinian envoy meeting

Ghana has reaffirmed its unwavering support for a two-state solution in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 22.

The meeting, which took place in Accra, featured HE Dr Mahmoud Sidqi Al-Habbash, the Chief Justice of Palestine, who attended as a special envoy of the President of the State of Palestine, HE Dr Mahmoud Abbas.

Discussions focused on the escalating violence in Gaza, with Ghana expressing deep concern over the mass killings and displacement of Palestinians.

The post stated, “It was an honour to receive HE Dr Mahmoud Sidqi Al-Habbash, the Chief Justice of Palestine. He was in my office yesterday as a special envoy of the President of the State of Palestine, H.E. Dr Mahmoud Abbas, to deliver a message.”

“Ghana reiterates its demands for a ceasefire in Gaza, strongly condemns the mass killings, and reaffirms its steadfast support for a two-state solution as prescribed by the UN. Calls for an end to the mass displacement of Palestinians, urges the safe and unfettered passage of humanitarian aid, and insists on the release of all hostages. As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Ghana will continue to uphold our longstanding sacred principles of respect for the UN Charter, belief in the values of human rights, adherence to the rule-based order, and entrench our enviable reputation as a global force for peace,” the post added.

Ghana called for an end to the mass displacement of Palestinians, urged the safe and unfettered passage of humanitarian aid, and insisted on the release of all hostages.

As a UN Human Rights Council member, Ghana pledged to uphold its longstanding principles of respect for the UN Charter, belief in human rights, adherence to the rule-based order, and maintaining its reputation as a global force for peace.

Ghana condemned the violence and emphasised the urgent need for the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict, along with the release of all hostages.
