Minister of Transport Joseph Bukari Nikpe is leading a high-level delegation to the 41st International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly in Montréal, Canada.
The global meeting runs from September 23 to October 3.
The minister is joined by John M.K. Wumborti, Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB); Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); and Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Hosted by Canada, the assembly is the premier forum where governments and aviation stakeholders deliberate on policies to shape the future of international civil aviation.
Ghana’s participation, according to officials, underscores its commitment to aviation safety, security, sustainability, and innovation in line with ICAO’s “no country left behind” agenda.
In his opening remarks, Canada’s Transport Minister, Steven MacKinnon, highlighted cooperation, innovation, accessibility, and sustainability as critical to the growth of global aviation.
He also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to safety, security, and inclusiveness in the sector.
Ahead of the assembly, delegates took part in the ICAO Innovation Fair (September 21–22), held under the theme “Global Horizons: Inclusive Innovations for Aviation”.
The fair showcased transformative technologies and inclusive solutions designed to strengthen global air transport.
Speaking at the event, Mr Nikpe reaffirmed Ghana’s stance:
“Ghana remains committed to working with ICAO and the global aviation community to ensure that safety, security, and sustainability are at the heart of our aviation development. We believe that no nation should be left behind in shaping the future of air transport, and Ghana will continue to contribute actively to this shared vision.”
