It is you we know — Western North Region unites in support of Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia appears poised to sweep the Western North Region in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in January, following a series of strong endorsements from delegates across constituencies in the region.

On the fourth leg of his nationwide campaign tour — having already visited the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions — Dr Bawumia has witnessed rising support in the Western North Region, where his tour began on Tuesday.

On the opening day in Sefwi Akontombra, Aowin, and Suaman, the former Vice President received an enthusiastic welcome from delegates and constituency executives, who chanted his name and openly endorsed his candidature to lead the NPP in 2028.

The support grew even stronger on the second day, with endorsement messages from Bia East, Bia West, Juaboso, and Bodi, reflecting sentiments similar to those expressed earlier.

Delegates and party officers consistently cited Dr Bawumia’s decency, humility, experience, and long-standing commitment to the progress of the NPP as reasons for their unwavering support.

His enduring relationship with grassroots members across the region was also widely acknowledged.

“Here in Bia East, you are adored because of your humility. In spite of all the attacks against you, you don’t even respond — and this is one of the reasons we are resolved to vote for you again,” said the Constituency Chairman for Bia East, John Ameyaw, in a welcome address.

“We commend you for your decency and humility. Let them say whatever they want to say about you; continue to be who you are, and victory will be yours,” he added.

In Bia West, the message was equally emphatic. “As for us, the only person we know is Dr Bawumia,” declared the Constituency Chairman.

“We’ve known you for many years. You have been with us all this time, both here and in the region, so we will continue to stand by you until you lead us to victory.”

Dr Bawumia’s popularity and growing support in the Western North Region — one of the most deprived regions in the country — are also attributed to several development projects that delegates say he helped bring to the area during his tenure as Vice President.

A key example is the major road connecting the region to Kumasi, which Dr Bawumia cut the sod for a few years ago. The improved road network has transformed transportation in the area, earning him praise from residents.

In addition, the Zipline medical drone service, which delivers essential medical supplies to remote communities, has been particularly impactful in the Western North Region.

His close relationship with delegates — strengthened through multiple visits to the region, some constituencies receiving him at least six times — has also deepened loyalty among party members.

In the 2023 NPP primaries, Dr Bawumia won in seven out of the eight constituencies in the Western North Region and from all indications, his support remains strong and widespread.
