Chief of Staff to the Vice President, Alex Percival Segbefia, has called on graduands of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to use their knowledge and skills to shape Africa’s future as a proactive and confident actor on the global stage.

Addressing the 14th Joint Graduation Ceremony on Friday, October 31, Mr Segbefia described KAIPTC as “sacred ground, a space dedicated to the vision and legacy of one of Africa’s most revered sons, Kofi Annan, a man whose life embodied service, humility, and the pursuit of global peace.”

He commended the Ghana Armed Forces and KAIPTC leadership for sustaining a world-class institution that nurtures professionals committed to peacebuilding, stability, and governance.

On the significance of the graduates’ role, he said: “Your perseverance, sacrifice, and commitment have brought you to this day, and you have earned not only degrees, but also a sacred responsibility to build, protect, and advance peace across our continent.”

He added that Africa must no longer be a spectator in global affairs, but an actor capable of setting agendas and shaping outcomes.

Mr Segbefia acknowledged the continent’s security challenges, including terrorism, violent extremism, illicit trafficking, and climate-related insecurity, while highlighting opportunities presented by youth, innovation, and the digital revolution.

“Ghana’s peace is bound to that of West Africa, and our progress depends on the collective stability of our neighbours,” he said.

He also addressed the unfinished KAIPTC building complex, noting: “Its incomplete state stands as a silent reminder of deferred promise…”

“The Ministry of Defence has approved its revival and completion through a robust public-private partnership.”

The project, he said, will enhance training capacity, regional collaboration, and reaffirm Ghana’s leadership in international peacekeeping.

Mr Segbefia challenged the graduates to act with integrity and champion African-led solutions.

“True security is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, opportunity, and dignity… Your individual efforts form part of a greater collective mission, the mission to make Africa a continent of peace, strength, and possibility,” he said.
