Government to launch Aquaculture Development Fund to enhance access to funding- Vice President

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has disclosed that government will soon establish an Aquaculture Development Fund aimed at promoting sustainable fish farming and improving livelihoods in coastal and inland communities.

Speaking at the Aquaculture Ghana 2025, the Vice President explained that the Fund will enhance access to financing for agribusinesses within the aquaculture industry and support efforts to increase production nationwide.

“The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has enacted the landmark Fisheries and Aquaculture Act 2025. The Act establishes an enabling legal framework that prioritizes innovation, inclusion and environmental stewardship”.

“ As stipulated in the Act, government will launch the Aquaculture Development Fund and this fund will improve access to finance, support infrastructure and accelerate research, enable technology transfer and innovation across the value chain”, She mentioned.

She also noted that the initiative is part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen the aquaculture value chain, create jobs, and boost food security through sustainable and inclusive growth.

Held under the theme “Transforming Ghana’s Aquaculture Sector: Innovation, Inclusion, and Job Creation,” the Aquaculture Ghana 2025 Conference brought together key stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, development partners, and farmer groups.

The two-day event focused on strategies to strengthen the aquaculture industry through technology adoption, research, innovation, and environmentally sustainable practices. It also served as a platform for agribusinesses to showcase products, share best practices, and network with potential investors.

Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, in her remarks, entreated stakeholders to collaborate and support efforts to expand Ghana’s aquaculture sector to meet the country’s growing demand for fish.

The Aquaculture Ghana 2025 organised by the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana underscores their commitment to transforming Ghana’s aquaculture landscape into a key driver of economic development and rural livelihood improvement.
