Black Stars striker Brandon Thomas-Asante scored his tenth league goal of the season to help Coventry City return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United in the English Championship.
The 26-year-old struck deep into injury time at the Coventry Building Society Arena to secure all three points for Frank Lampard’s side, who had lost their first match of the season against Wrexham just days earlier.
Sheffield United took the lead in the 25th minute when former Coventry defender Sam McCallum found the net from close range.
The visitors held their advantage into half-time before Coventry responded strongly after the break.
Tatsuhiro Sakamoto equalised four minutes into the second half, finishing off a fine pass from Bobby Thomas.
The defender then turned goalscorer on the hour mark, heading home from a corner to put the hosts in front.
In stoppage time, Haji Wright broke free down the left and squared for Thomas-Asante to calmly roll in the third goal into an empty net.
The result moves Coventry four points clear at the top of the table.
Thomas-Asante’s goal also took his personal record to ten goals and three assists this season.
He has featured five times for the Black Stars in all competitions, scoring once, and hopes to earn a place in the squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
