Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has said that Ghana’s performance under the IMF-supported Programme has been strong and consistent, reflecting the government’s firm commitment to stability and reform.
Dr Forson made the remarks while presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy in Parliament on Wednesday.
Dr Forson said, “Mr. Speaker, Ghana’s performance under the IMF-supported Programme has been strong and consistent, reflecting our firm commitment to stability and reform.”
He highlighted the country’s progress under the programme, noting that “On 7th July 2025, the IMF Executive Board approved Ghana’s Fourth Review of the Programme, following decisive corrective measures that brought the programme back on track and unlocked an immediate US$367 million disbursement to support our reserves and budget.”
The Finance Minister further stated, “Mr Speaker, in October 2025, Ghana reached a Staff-Level Agreement on the Fifth Review after meeting all end-June performance criteria and targets, including maintaining inflation within the agreed consultation band.
Out of eleven structural benchmarks scheduled between June and September, nine have been fully implemented, while the rest are being refined to ensure long-term sustainability.”
He emphasised the broader impact of the programme on Ghana’s economy, saying, “Mr Speaker, our performance under the Programme shows that Ghana’s recovery is real, disciplined, and homegrown. The IMF programme has served as a strong policy anchor, reinforcing credibility while allowing the Government to drive reforms that reflect our national priorities, restoring confidence, rebuilding resilience, and securing lasting prosperity for the Ghanaian people.”
