Ernest Abebe Tabi, a soldier, ordained Reverend Minister and singer-songwriter, has released a new single titled ‘Thank You Lord’, a piece rooted in a near-death experience that reshaped his sense of gratitude.
The song draws from his military life, his Christian ministry and his growing catalogue as a musician, echoing the message of Psalms 107:1 NIV: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
The inspiration behind the song dates back to 9 February 2014 when Tabi was on a RAF Voyager aircraft that suddenly dropped over the Black Sea. As the aircraft descended without warning, his instinctive reaction was to whisper “Jesus” and “Thank You Lord”.
He says, “I wasn’t thanking God for what was happening, I was thanking Him because I knew He was still in control.”
The pilot eventually regained control and averted disaster, a moment Tabi describes as the turning point that deepened his understanding of gratitude, in line with 1 Thessalonians 5:18 HCSB: “Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Tabi says “Thank You Lord” is his testimony, a reminder of God’s mercy and the response it demands. He calls the single a soldier’s salute to a faithful God, crafted to encourage listeners to reflect on their own experiences of divine intervention and to appreciate life and purpose, especially during difficult battles both inward and outward.
For the past 18 months, Tabi has been releasing what he describes as “God-given music”, with “Thank You Lord” becoming the sixth single in his growing body of work. He also convenes the annual “Love2Worship” gathering, which promotes love, obedience and fellowship through music. Tabi continues to urge believers to seek a deeper knowledge of God for a fulfilled life.
