MTN Ghana attributes disruption in network connectivity to fibre optic cuts

Mr Philip Ennin, the Engineer, Network Field Service, MTN Ghana has attributed the disruption of telecommunication network in parts of the Bono Region, to the continuous cutting of fiber optic cables and stealing of telecom poles in the region.

He said the region had reported 211 fiber cuts this year and called for public support to bring the situation under control to improve the company’s network in the region.

Mr Ennin made the call when at the MTN’s 2025 media and stakeholders’ forum in Sunyani, aimed at deepening its relationship with the media.

He said the theft of telecom poles was now an issue in the region.

He said the theft in the poles was widespread at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality, Sampa in the Jaman North as well as Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West Districts of the region, saying this year alone the company had replaced 77 telecom poles and arrested a suspect.

Mr Ennin said the growing insecurity situation in parts of the region was also making it difficult for the company to carry out some repairs works in those areas.

He said the contributions of local community members remained essential in tackling pertinent challenges impeding quality telecommunication network flow in parts of the region and urged the people to remain calm, as the company worked hard to address challenges for quality and stable networks.

Mr Ennin said the company required support and collaboration from everybody towards ensuring stable network connectivity, and also protected citizens from cyber threats, saying the company was also working hard to expand its services in the region.

He said as the Christmas season approached, there was the need for everybody to be mindful about being safety conscious about mobile money fraud and urged customers to block suspicious and unknown mobile phone numbers and also launch the two-step verification on their phones.

Mr Annim urged everybody to be careful to protect themselves against the activities of fraudsters too.
